Conspiracy of Equals v2.0 acclaimed a winner

The second in the occasional series of gigs by the new Conspiracy of Equals improvising collective proved a great success at the Ariel Centre Totnes last saturday evening. A small but appreciative audience was held spellbound by the spontaneous musical combustion created by some of the leading players in the UK scene today.

For over 80 minutes, the quartet of Harry S Fulcher (reeds), from the Limbic System, Aaron Standon (alto sax, guitar) and Marco Anderson (traps and percussion) from the Bird Architects and bass virtuoso Peter Brandt produced an amazing tapestry of gratifyingly melodic and rhythmic music which held the audience in awed rapture.

Calling upon the combined total of their collective musical experiences, the music ranged over Coleman like frenetic jazz, through Miles like electric funk, delicate melodic sound portraits, African Voodoo rituals to contemporary Jazz-Jungle drum and bass. Intensely communicative with a decent dash of humour this music was at once recognisable like and old friend whilst managing to be simultaneously as fresh and innovative as a new lover.

We're already looking forward to further adventures in this format and news of subsequent outings and combinations are eagerly awaited.
