groundhogs-touring-uk-again
The Mighty Groundhogs lead by the original UK psychodelic bluesman, Tony T.S. McPhee are playing live again in the UK. Now renamed Tony McPhee's Groundhogs, they include ex-Hawkwind and Amon Duul bassist Dave Anderson and Foxy's very own Marco Anderson on traps. For more information go to www.myspace.com/tonymcpheethegroundhogs.
Foxy is very proud to announce that their very own MD, Marco Anderson is in the drum chair, a life long 'Hogs fan himself.
Foxy interviewed our MD himself :
"I followed the Groundhogs around the country in the 70's and must have seen them nearly 30 times. I bought all their albums and kept every scrap of info from the press I could find. For me they combined the raw blues power of John Lee Hooker with the improvisation and wild guitar sonic attacks of Hendrix and the progressive movement that was just beginning in music in the early 70's. Apart from Jimi, no-one else was making those kind of sounds on a guitar, a kind've primitive banshee howling and screaming which made their music totally original."
"No two Groundhogs gigs were ever the same which made them a must-see live band, mixing in wide improvised detours from the original songs and yet somehow always finding their way back to the arrangements. I thought they were the best thing ever at the time."
How does he feel about playing alongside his teenage hero now ?
"It's just the greatest thrill and privilege, to be able to play with Tony and actually render all those favourite songs of mine, like Mistreated, Still a Fool, Garden, Split Pt 1 and of course Cherry Red live on stage. I thought I was going to have a heart attack on the first night I was so excited :-)"
